What is The Cliffs Cottage?

The Cliffs Cottage at Furman is Southern Living magazine's first sustainable Showcase Home. Located on the Furman campus and open to the public June 14, 2008, The Cliffs Cottage was built to Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design (LEED) certification standards and is a model of environmentally responsible design, building techniques and materials and energy-saving systems. Virtually every design element reflects the concept of environmental sustainability-inside and out.

A hands-on environmental learning laboratory, The Cliffs Cottage is a tangible extension to Furman's programs and practices in the pursuit of sustainability. Principle partners like Bank of America, The Cliffs Communities and Duke Energy have generously stepped up to join the university and Southern Living on this journey.

Take a virtual tour or plan a visit to The Cliffs Cottage at Furman. Either way, you will come away with inspiration, loads of ideas and new ways of living that result in a better world today and tomorrow.
