Southern Living Goes Green

Spurred by reader interest in green ideas, Southern Living magazine launched into The Cliffs Cottage at Furman project to offer its readers a first hand look at green design concepts, materials and systems. “Instead of just reporting on green products, we actually wanted to live with them, so we can tell our readers what works and what doesn’t,” says Derick Belden, executive editor of Southern Living. “We do a great deal of research with our readers and we know they are interested in green ideas they can incorporate into their own homes, but those ideas must be cost efficient and proven, which is what makes this project so great. We can show readers first hand how something works, how practical it is and give them a glimpse into the future of sustainability.”
Southern Living will feature The Cliffs Cottage Showcase Home and gardens in several issues of its magazine, which is the seventh largest monthly consumer magazine in the United States (based on readership), reaching nearly 16 million readers each month with a circulation of about 2.8 million.
